This webtoon turned professionally published graphic novels are beyond beautiful artistically. that said with the beauty comes the ugly, and in this series some harder and darker topics are talked about. There is an authors note/trigger warnings page in the front, but if you feel like that's not enough information or that you aren't in the right head space, do not feel bad about taking a step back.
Overall I have now read all three of the officially published and bounded volumes which equals out to roughly 75 webtoon episodes, and 25 episodes per volume.
Lore Olympus Vol. One by Rachel Smythe, 384 pages, published November 2nd 2021 - 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
It was also winner of Goodreads choice 2021 for graphic novel.
Lore Olympus Vol. Two by Rachel Smythe, 368 pages, published July 5th 2022 - 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
It is currently a nominee for Goodreads choice 2022 for graphic novel.
Lore Olympus Vol. Three by Rachel Smythe, 384 pages, published October 11th 2022 - 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Instead of talking about each of these amazing volumes separately I want to talk about it more as a whole. This collection of Persephone and Hades story has been an ongoing publication on Webtoon since March of 2018. Since then Rachel has given us three bind-up, won or been nominated for many awards, talked about a television adaptation - all the while continuing to write and draw and publish more. To her I want to say that I am inspired and proud of you! These stories have given me a fun look at the Greek myths as well as a way to tie mental health and trauma into everyday lives (even those of gods and goddesses). Thank you for creating this world @usedbandaid , and I can't wait to see more!!!

Three books I Read in August and September Readathons
This month was a slow month, I was going insane without school and work, and now I am only going crazy- I started school yesterday. And my new job starts on the 19th! So, again, a very slow month for me in the reading department.
Anyway, without further ado, let's get to those three books!
Lore Olympus Vol 1. by Rachel Smythe- okay I was not happy with this graphic novel. First of all, there was a scene in the book that border lined on attempted rape for me... and I was not here for it. So, I will not be finishing this series and honestly, I don't even want to recap it. If you don't mind those things then go ahead and read it, but I know for some, they cannot read that. And I did not see anything or hear anything about trigger warnings- that may have been my fault for not looking deeper. But I am here to let it be known now.
Paper Girls Vol. 1 by Brian Vaughan- this was a re-read for me, so I am not going to spend much time on this, but it is now a tv series and I had to re-read it before watching the show. And I am glad I did, I understood it more reading it again and I see how close and different it is to the show. I love it. I don't remember how far I got with the issues but I am going to gobble them all up now.
Pretty Little Liars- Sara Shepard- I read this for my Fully Booked Reading Challenge and I never read it after watching the show from the first to the last episode. I am glad I did not. The book itself is horrible. The writing was not there for me and the characters were not there for me. It was basically like the first half of episode one....in the first book. I just hated everything about it, but I wanted it off my checklist so I choked it down. Maybe the more I think about it. the more my slow reading month might have had something to do with the books I was reading (except PG). I feel extra mean writing this, but I was definitely not happy with these two reading options. Thankfully I finished them and can mark them off the prompt list.
Currently reading- The Fifth Wave by Rick Yancey for the number in the title of the Fully Booked Reading Challenge.

Books read in June 2022
Only three books, but I also binged on web comics and I'm counting them because it's my list and I do what I want.
Norse Mythology, Vol 2. I read Vol. 1 earlier this year. Graphic novel, good art.
Prime Deceptions, Valerie Valdes. Also a sequel to a book I read a couple months ago. Fun space opera, very fanfic-y, nothing deep but it was enjoyable.
Neverwhere, Neil Gaiman. This edition has some additional material that was originally edited out, but it's been too long since I first read it so I didn't notice any difference. Also included a short story featuring the Marquis, which I really enjoyed.
Two of the comics I binged are on Webtoon. The premise of Fluidum is everyone is born with two bodies, male and female, and they have to choose a permanent gender by their 21st birthday. This seems to be an easy, natural choice for most people. But the protagonist, Jesse, wants to remain fluid, and as the story unfolds, we see that they are not alone. Some people are pressured to choose, or have the choice entirely taken from them. There are also conspiracies, relationship drama, and other stuff going on.
Lore Olympus, also on Webtoon, is a romance based on Greek mythology, mostly Persephone and Hades. There are some issues with it but eh. I mostly like it because the art's pretty. Content warning for themes of trauma and rape (I didn't find it triggering but ymmv).
Lastly, I read Joe vs Elan School, based on the author's experiences at a horrifically abusive school for troubled teens, and how he coped after getting out. To be honest I had to skim through a lot of the school abuse stuff. It's really intense.
I read elsewhere that he used false names for some of the people involved, for legal reasons, and also used some experiences of his fellow students, so it's sort of a composite and slightly fictionalized. I have no reason to doubt the overall truth of his account at all though. I know the "troubled teen" industry is rife with abuse, and having worked in related fields I've heard some horror stories.
Anyway I may or may not continue with this one as it updates because it really is a mindfuck and I don't need that right now.

Episode 303: Our Favorite Comics of 2018
Time Codes:
00:01:28 - Introduction
00:03:49 - Context, and a few statistics
00:10:41 - Our favorite comics of 2018, part 1

01:47:47 - Our favorite comics of 2018, part 3
02:08:23 - Wrapping up our favorites
02:11:19 - Contact us
It's that time again! It's the end of the year, their very last weekly review episode of 2018, and so the Two Guys are ready to share what they consider to be their favorite comics of the past twelve months. This is Sterg's first time doing this, but he successfully steps up to the plate to reveal what he considers his 10 favorites of 2018. And Derek does the same.
Before that, though, they go over a few statistics from the past year. Over the course of 2018 -- at least up until the time of the recording of this end-of-the-year show -- The Comics Alternativereleased a total of 171 episodes of the podcast. Of that number, 55 were interviews, 10 were webcomics shows, 11 manga episodes, 10 from the Euro comics series, 6 were young reader shows, 16 on-location episodes, and 1 special. (And since Sterg and Derek recorded this "Favorites" episode, there have been at least three other shows for the current year, an on-location, a webcomic, and a Euro comics show. Maybe a manga episode will go up before the new year, as well?)
But of much more importance are the various titles that both Sterg and Derek picked as this year's favorites. Each chooses, in no particular order, what he considers to be his 10 favorites of 2018:
Sterg's Top 10 of 2018
Is This Guy for Real?: The Unbelievable Andy Kaufman- Box Brown (First Second)
Wytches: Bad Egg Halloween Special- Scott Snyder and Jock (Image Comics)

Summer Reading 2023: July
A quick summary of what I was able to read in July!
Finished:
A Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle
The last one! I liked that in this collection we're back to cases that don't necessarily involve murder ^^ It also features the moment between Sherlock and Watson (as well as one of Sherlock's most savage replies to Watson's attempt at reasoning, to balance things up xD). And I was really happy to realize what was going on in Thor Bridge and Lion's Mane quicker than Sherlock did, lol :D
The House of Silk by Anthony Horowitz
(The "official" Sherlock Holmes novel penned by a different author)
It. Was. Amazing!!! The prose truly felt as if it was written by Doctor Watson, long into his retirement. The story is a tangled one, involving not just one but two cases, many lies, much cruelty, a huge scandal and conspiracy, elusive foes... and equally elusive temporary allies :D I loved it! It can be easily incorporated into the canon.
The Three Monarchs by Anthony Horowitz
(The "official" short Sherlock Holmes story penned by a different author)
I'd say it's nothing very remarkable, but it's just like canon short stories and it reminded me of the one with plaster busts, but the resolution was completely different :) so it was an okay read.
Prelude to Foundation by Isaac Asimov
Got it as a graduation present from my lab - and finally had the time to read it :) I loved it, it was an easy to read and compelling story with twists that I didn't even anticipate. I'd like to read the other books in the series too!
The Ghost Bride by Yangsze Choo
After watching the TV series a few years ago, I wanted to read the original novel. Finally I did! The plot and characters were quite different from the drama ones, but both versions worked for me. The book is much slower and focuses more on the heroine herself, as well as the detailed descriptions of both the real world and the afterlife. And Erlang was a fantastic character in the book ^^
Sachiiro no One Room by Hakuri
The last volume of the manga made me cry uncontrollably for quite some time... (and this reaction of mine scared me a little, ngl :)) Wow, what a journey it was. Read it if you can stomach stories about child abuse.
The Summer Hikaru Died vol. 1-2 by Mokumokuren
It's a slice-of-life horror BL manga. Not mu usual go-to genres :D so I did not really plan to read this series... but I checked out a few chapters and decided to give it a chance, since I wasn't that much scared by the horror part. Indeed, so far it's been a really interesting, slightly spooky story! But apparently there's a lot of it still ahead of us.
Moriarty the Patriot vol. 15 by Ryosuke Takeuchi & Hikaru Miyoshi
This volume begins telling the story of what happened after the Moriarty Plan had been realized. I'm re-reading the whole series (this time in my native tongue) but I'm still as emotional about certain scenes as I was when seeing them for the first time :')
BSD vol. 23 by Kafka Asagiri & Sango Harukawa
The battles between Kenji and Tecchou as well as Fukuchi and Fukuzawa (and their backstory!), Aya and Bram's attempts of escape, the Mersault Game (famous chapter 101)... I loved it ^^
The extra chapters of MDZS by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu
I read them all except for the incense burner one (I don't need... this, lol). I rather liked most of them, especially the investigative ones ^^
Half-Way There:
Aoharu x Machinegun by NAOE
I read up till the first round of the TGC, so just a few more volumes to go ^^
The Apothecary Diaries by Natsu Hyuuga, Nekokurage, Itsuki Nanao
I caught up with the first seven volumes. I love this manga so much! A historical slice-of-life/investigative series with two unhinged (in different ways) main characters :D
Just started:
Death Note and Spy x Family :)
Up-to-Date With:
The Snake and the Crane
Lore Olympus
Return of the Mad Demon
Holmes of Kyoto by Mai Mochizuki & Ichiha Akizuki (up to chapter 48) I'm in love with this series! A modern slice-of-life with art and antiques and some investigations ^^ I hope the manga goes on, if not, I've gotta invest myself into light novels.... :)
